I practiced surgical oncology in New York for 28 years. Many of my patients had breast problems. Among the most common and difficult benign breast problems I encountered were breast infections. I always considered myself a very traditional surgeon who frowned on any nontraditional remedies.

I first met Sara Chana Silverstein with my first child. (I currently have 4 children). I was having so much pain breastfeeding my child. It turned out that I had a yeast infection in my breast from taking antibiotics for years for chronic strep throat. Sara Chana and I worked for weeks trying to get me to nurse my baby pain-free.
